Some of the stories we gathered through our visits at MACWO.
Mohammad’s Camel story:
This story is about a young Somali boy who lived in the countryside with his cousins. His family owned 240 camels. The countryside is also frequently visited by the wild animals. One day when the boy and his cousins were out in the desert with the camels the group had to part as the group of cousins had to leave the boy alone with the 240 camels.
Suddenly he heard a heavy animal approaching one of his camels. Being alone in the open field he decided to climb up a tree nearby and inspect the site. He could then see the tiger clearly, preparing to attack. Scared of the situation he remained up on the tree until the tiger had finished with camel and was not hungry. After sometime the cousins came back and saw a half eaten dead camel in the field and asked the boy what happened
Abdulahi Stone throwing story
The lifestyle is different in different parts of the world, the lifestyle is on thing that the refugees miss a lot like during the discussion the member mentioned how the elders who sit together after dinner outside the house and chat while the kids would play around and every once in awhile some of their mischiefs will be chased after. Now this lifestyle in London does not allow the same experience.
Journey to learn the quran
It is a duty of a musalman to know how to read the quran. In some families in Somalia they start the recitation of the Holy manuscript even before a child starts their schooling. This story is about a young kid who started learning the quran in somalia but soon their family had to move to London. His quran lessons could not complete. He had extra classes in the evenings during his stay in London but because of the difference in the education system in london. The boy was then sent back to Somalia for a year to complete his lessons.
The closeness among relatives- serve food, money coming back
The somali families are very close to each other. Their hospitality towards family is so strong that if a guest comes home they don't even ask them the purpose of the visit. The host family serves the guest for two days at least before asking them anything.
Another place where we can see the closeness to family members is through the stats of how much money that the richer family members send back to help their families.
The plastic story
The Somali people are very fond of business and investment. Many have been very lucky and some lost a fortune. There was a lady who went to china in search of investment opportunities. She got to know of plastic containers that were being sold for a very cheap price in China. She started the business of importing that plastic to somalia. Her business bloomed. They were another set of investor who followed the same action but till then she had already conquered the plastic market in somalia
